On Saturday, February 23rd Righetti FFA kicked off their spring Career Development Event season at Hartnell College in Salinas, Ca. Righetti had two teams compete in the Vegetable Crop and Welding contests. Both teams consisted of 4 students that were evaluated individually. The vegetable crops team placed 1st and the Ag welding team placed 2nd in their contest areas. Overall, Righetti FFA received the Sweepstakes Award for the highest achievement in all of the contests.

The Vegetable crops team was evaluated on their ability to identify vegetables, common diseases, pests, transplants, weeds, as well as give an oral evaluation on their vegetable placings for four classes of vegetables. The team placed first overall with Maximus Guerra placing 2nd high individual and Ashley Palin placing 4th high individual. The team also consisted of Nicole Plude, Eddie Munoz, and Yesenia Nava.

The Agriculture welding team was evaluated on welding applications, general knowledge of welding, and their ability to demonstrate skills that are reflective of those required in the welding industry. The contest is very hands-on and prepares students for a transition into further education and industry careers. The team placed 2nd overall and included Joseph Rodriguez, Oscar Gonzalez, Abel Cedillo, and Hudson Housley.

Righetti FFA is proud of the hard work and dedication their students put into preparing for this event and were overjoyed when they received the title of State Champion. They cannot wait to compete in the upcoming Spring Career Development Events and bring home more State Champion Bowls!
