PVHS Ranked 6th in the State and ERHS Parli-Pro Teams Advance
The Righetti FFA advanced and novice parli-pro teams will now compete at the South Coast Regional Contest. The top four teams in each category will then move on to the state finals competition in April. On March 4th, Righetti FFA hosted the Santa Barbara FFA Sectional Parliamentary Procedure and Cooperative Marketing Competition. Righetti FFA’s Advance Team A placed 1st, Advanced Team B placed 3rd, and Novice Team placed 2nd. Righetti FFA also placed 2nd in the Cooperative Marketing Test. The Parliamentary Procedure and Debate contest is the effective way of conducting a business meeting using parliamentary law, according to agriculture teacher Amy Guerra. It consists of a written test on parliamentary law and a 10-minute presentation where the team conducts parliamentary procedure. The teams consisted of 6 students that were evaluated individually on their ability to debate and bring up motions, she added. Isabella Ramos, a sophomore on the Novice Parli-Pro team said, “This was my first time learning and competing in Parli-Pro, and I have gotten really good at debating different topics and speaking in front of a room full of my peers.” Advisor, Amy Guerra is proud of the students’ hard work and dedication they have put into preparing for this event and enjoys seeing students overcome their fear of public speaking.
