Good Samaritan back button

Four Ernest Righetti High School clubs are teaming up to bring holiday joy to the Good Samaritan Homeless Shelter.

The Dec. 7 event is scheduled between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and involves students providing and serving dinner. They will also distribute gifts including books, hygiene products, toys and other items they purchased through fundraising efforts.

The clubs responsible are: Interact, Project Humanity, We Create Change and the Central Coast Sports Network. An athlete will also dress as Santa Claus.

Seniors Lesther Valenzuela and Danny Luu spearheaded the community outreach effort to ensure the less fortunate are not forgotten.

"We want to provide support to the community and those in need,'' Valenzuela said. “It’s really our responsibility.''

Teacher Deanna Byrne believes the young ambassadors of kindness are on the right track.

"As teachers, what else could we hope for?'' Byrne said. "They are part of dynamic junior and senior classes and it really feels like they are getting it. This will not be the last time they do something like this.''
