About 90 hardworking Santa Maria Joint Union High School District students will be honored Wednesday (September 10) for “perfect” scores on a state academic examination during the school board meeting. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. inside the cafeteria at Santa Maria High School, 901 South Broadway.
The special SMJUHSD certificates are for 10th to 12th-grade students from Ernest Righetti, Santa Maria and Pioneer Valley high schools. The students dominated the California High School Exit Examination. The scores, which were achieved in English and Math, help determine the district’s state ranking and are required for graduation.
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction John Davis described the test scores as “outstanding” achievements.
“We celebrate their exceptional degree of focus and attention to this important exam,’’ Davis said.
During last year’s ceremony, more than 200 parents, relatives, friends, staff and board members cheered the young scholars on.
