Two Righetti High School standouts are moving their games to the next level.
Nicole Flatley will play softball for Sterling College in Kansas while Lukas Sheckherd is heading to the U.S. Air Force Academy Water Polo Team, according to Athletic Director Joe Graack.
Nicole, who will receive about $12,000 in academic and athletic aid, is more than ready.
“I cannot wait to represent such a well-respected school,’’ she said. “Each person along my journey is much appreciated. I am very excited to see what my future holds.’’
Coach Mike Roberson said it has been an honor to work with such an “outstanding and coachable” young athlete.
“I can always tell she is having fun out there,’’ Roberson said. “Her future is bright and I am so proud of her accomplishment and look forward to what lies ahead.’’
Lukas believes Righetti shaped and defined his positive attitude.
“Righetti Water Polo has made me the player and person I am today,’’ he said. “I will always be thankful for that and will continue to use the skills this program gave me at the collegiate level.’’
Coach Kyle Shaffer said Lukas is one of the most “talented” players to come through the program in years.
“He combined talent with a desire to be the best,’’ Shaffer said. “That has pushed him to work hard, and even harder. If he can keep his desire, Lukas should perform even better at the college level.’
