More than 700 incoming freshman will receive an early welcome at Pioneer Valley High School on Friday, August 7.

The seventh annual “Link Crew” orientation kicks off at 8 a.m. and ends about noon inside the school gym. More than 150 junior and senior leaders are planning to divide the freshman up into small groups and give them a glimpse of their new environment.

Teacher Marcie Guerra believes the outreach allows the new students to start forming a connection with the campus before school begins.

“It’s a day of fun where they can meet upper classmen, see the campus, and learn a little more about PV,’’ Guerra said. “The orientation is a great way to alleviate the stress that comes along with starting a new school.’’

The student leaders will also mentor the new freshman throughout the year. That commitment has ensured the new students pay it forward to others in the future.
