Delta High School students learned that respect can end bullying and cruelty in school during a presentation this week.
The students spent some of their day attending the HEAR Program (Helping Everyone Achieve Respect). It’s a research-based bullying prevention program for the classroom that challenge students to adopt respectful personal behavior and active bullying intervention.
The speaker, National Guard Sgt. Denoyer, covered topics including how to recognize bullying, its consequences and strategies to minimize it. Methods for enhancing respectful behavior and cyber bullying were also part of interactive discussion.
Student Karen Ramos found the information intriguing.
“It taught me a lot about who I am and the type of person I want to be,’’ Ramos said.
English teacher Glynda Maddaleno said the presentation empowered students to be solid role models.
“These kids are at an age where they can really make a difference on younger kids who look up to them,’’ Maddaleno said.
