The community will be revving up their engines to get to the SMHS Saints Race Team’s Car Show and barbecue on Saturday, January 30.
The event, which raises funds for the auto program that is designed to support automotive and mechanical career pathways for students, starts at 7 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m. on the softball field near Thornburg Street and Fairgrounds. The $10 tasty barbecue featuring a tri-tip sandwich, chips and a soda is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Nearly 100 show cars, from the 1930s to present including The SMHS Saints Drag Racer, are scheduled for display. Car buffs from throughout the state are sure to have plenty of race and automotive-related stories to share too.
Team Advisor Art Foster said the show, which has become a community tradition, was entirely organized by his students.
“Our outstanding students have created an environment where everyone can discover something special,’’ Foster said. “These young people are so amazing. They are learning how to be prepared and confident now and in the future.’’
