Demonstrating superior achievement in the development and application of agricultural mechanics, Santa Maria High School FFA member Jose Rios earned the Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Placement Proficiency Award at the 88th State FFA Leadership Conference in Fresno.
Rios has been working at the Pro Diesel Service and Repair shop where he performs tasks ranging from basic tractor servicing to more complicated replacement and repair tasks on farming equipment.
“To win this award just showed how the long hours of hard work and dedication have paid off in my life,’’ said Rios, who now qualifies to compete at the national level. “I plan on furthering my education after high school so one day I can open an agricultural mechanics shop of my own.’’
The Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Placement Proficiency Award honors students who repair and maintain agricultural structures, equipment and machinery. The State Award is sponsored by Empire Agriculture and Tractor Supply Company, sponsor the National Award in this proficiency area.
