A Santa Maria High School FFA member recently received a $1,000 scholarship for agriculture leadership and accomplishments.

Senior Alondra Novoa was one of two students awarded the Actagro Scholarship at the 88th California State FFA Leadership Conference, according to Shannon Powell of the SMHS Agricultural Department.

“I am very grateful,’’ Novoa said. “It will truly help me with tuition and books, as I attend CSU Chico this upcoming fall, where I plan to major in Agricultural Education.’’

The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District has more than 1,500 FFA members at SMHS, Righetti and Pioneer Valley High Schools.

The California FFA Association was founded in 1928 and serves more than 82,000 California high school students.
