Two trustees for the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Education were sworn in during Tuesday night’s meeting.

The meeting was held at the Support Services Center on Skyway Drive and featured Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools Bill Cirone administering the oaths.

Long-time trustee Dr. Jack Garvin and the newest board member Amy Lopez were re-elected. Garvin, who took office in November 2004, will have his term expire in 2020. Lopez was appointed in February 2016 and will also have to run for re-election in 2020.

“We are happy to have our incumbent board members returning to our governance team. I look forward to working with them to ensure that that board’s vision is implemented in our district and that our students receive the best possible education,’’ said Superintendent Dr. Mark Richardson.
