The PVHS FFA Citrus Judging Team took home the State Title at a winter competition in Fresno recently.

Individual Citrus Judging Team competitors are Yadira Barrera (second high scorer), IIianna Hernandez (third high scorer), Jordan Gonzales (fourth high scorer) and Carolin Ponce was the alternate. The total of these scores led to the championship.

A second Citrus Judging Team finished ninth. And the Tree Pruning Team finished seventh.

The judging competition is designed to prepare students for the expectations of the citrus industry, according to FFA Advisor Hector Guerra.

“Our students have developed a high degree of knowledge and skill in industry standards as well as in critical thinking, oral communication and plant biology,’’ Guerra added. “The knowledge gained also can be
applied to general fruit production. Their hard work paid off and I look forward to next year’s winter judging teams.’’

The contest was the Winter State FFA Finials held at CSU Fresno. The competitors will now move on to the Spring Competition.
