Children’s books will provide football admission discounts at a crosstown rival SMJUHSD football game in Orcutt on Friday night.

The donation of a children’s book will allow adult fans to pay $5 for admission instead of $8 for the action between the Pioneer Valley Panthers and the Righetti Warriors. Every child who brings a book receives free admission.

Righetti’s ASTRA (Ability, Service, Training, Responsibility, Achievement) Club organized the event to connect with the community and raise the level of literacy with younger students.

“Our hope is that families get together and read a book,’’ said ASTRA Club Advisor Dayna DeBernardi, adding the club has 29 members.

Donated books will be given away at a number of the club’s service projects such as Ontiveros School’s Kinder County Fair, Monthly Orcutt Library Crafts and Storytime, and THRIVE sponsored events.

The club is a volunteer organization sponsored by the Altrusa of the Central Coast Club.

The junior varsity football game starts at 4 p.m. and the varsity game begins at 7 p.m.
