Arrive Alive Program at SMHS back button

SMHS students will get to know the cold hard facts about impaired and distracted driving during a simulator program inside the Ethel Pope Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 2.

The "Arrive Alive Tour" features two simulators and videos that create texting or drunk driving experiences. The students also take a survey, pledge, and may receive a ticket to understand the consequences. About 100 students will participate.

Car crashes are the number one cause of death for everyone in the United States ages 5 to 34, according to the NHTSA. Texting while driving makes a driver 23 times more likely to crash. Wrecks are the leading cause of death for teens, and about a quarter involve an underage drinking driver, the NHTSA added.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to learn more about the consequences of distracted and impaired driving,’’ said Saint Activity Director Adrian Salazar. "With the use of the simulator, we hope our students leave with a better understanding of the dangers and therefore make good choices.’’
