DHS Prison Field Trip back button

Twenty-seven Delta High School students learned first-hand that bad choices can ruin your life during a field trip to the Lompoc Federal Correctional Institute on April 17th.

The Dragons sat down with nine inmates who are part of the I.M.P.A.C.T (Inmates Mentoring Peers Against Criminal Thinking) program.

During the presentation, each inmate shared their story, about the bad decisions that ended up negatively affecting their lives, as well as their families’ lives, according to DHS Security Officer John Widle. Then, the inmates gave the students tools they can put in their tool bag to make positive decisions, Widle added.

"It changed my mentality about doing criminal things,’’ said Lupe Camacho, a junior. “Thinking about not being able to be with family".

Junior Sean Clark agreed, adding "It was a very important, valuable and impactful lesson to be learned".
