Pioneer Valley and Righetti high schools today (Tuesday, May 1) are hosting post-secondary education signing events for more than 300 students who have made commitments to a community college or the Cal State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. The event at PVHS starts inside the gym about 11:30 a.m. and will feature AHC President Kevin Walthers and SMJUHSD Superintendent Dr. Mark Richardson. “This is a great way to recognize our outstanding students who realize the importance of continuing their education because it really can make dreams and goals come true,’’ said Panther Principal Shanda Herrera. “These students have succeeded at balancing academics, social life and the many challenges teenagers face these days. We are very proud of them and all of our young people as well.’’ At ERHS, the celebration starts about 11:35 a.m. at the Greek Theatre, according to UCSB EAOP (Early Academic Outreach Program) Specialist Alma Miranda. “This is the day we have been waiting for,’’ said Warrior Senior Counselor Julie Santoyo. “The students are truly stars and we are happy to acknowledge and their future aspirations.’’
