Warrior Art Show & Chalk Festival back button

Righetti High School students plan to display and sell a slew of hand-crafted artwork during their annual Art Show, which has become a community tradition in Orcutt.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. inside the Warrior gym on May 30 and 31. It features more than 1,200 pieces of work including paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and much more.
Art Teacher Melissa Johnson said the show is more than an opportunity for the 400 student-artists to share their creations.

“They learn to price, sell and other business-related skills that professional artists need to have,’’ Johnson said. “It’s really a wonderful learning environment.’’

On May 31, students also plan to host their annual Chalk Festival from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The students will start early forming and drawing 6-foot by 6-foot drawings on the ground.

The young artists will demonstrate the ability to convey a wide-range of topics and statements in groups. Some of the work will include environmental, fantasy, dream, romantic and realism themes.

The chalk drawings should be on display throughout the week.
