SMJUHSD Students Host Nuestra Lotería at Santa Maria Fairpark

Nuestra Loteria

More than 300 SMJUHSD students from PVHS, SMHS and ERHS transformed the cultural card game Lotería into images that represent themselves.

The 2023 Nuestra Lotería Project’s gallery is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 2 inside the Fountain Pavilion at the Santa Maria Fairpark. The students created painted images to reflect social justice, cultural preservation, and community empowerment.

This project was made possible through a school-community partnership between Corazón del Pueblo/Cultural and Creative Arts Center of the Santa Maria Valley (Curator Abraham Melendrez) and SMJUHSD.

“This program allowed our students to creatively express themselves and gave them exposure to the professional artistic process,’’ said SMJUHSD Student Services Director Steve Molina. “We are very grateful to have such excellent community partners taking an interest in our students and appreciate our teacher leadership guiding our students through the process.’’
