The SMJUHSD Residential and Commercial Building & Construction Design Build Team won the 2022 Rookie Team of the Year Award after competing in the Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF) 37th Annual Design Build Competition in Sacramento on May 4th & 5th.
The award recognizes the best team competing in their 1st or 2nd CIEF design build competition. The nine-member group battled 44 other high schools, trade schools, and colleges in the design and construction of a shed.
“I was the team leader and had to deal with multiple inspectors and inspections,” said Allan Amaro- Valdovinos, a SMHS senior. “I was nervous at first, but I learned to handle the pressure. It was a great experience.’’
“I’m extremely proud of our team!’’ said CTE Residential and Commercial Construction Teacher Glen Holmes. “Their hard work and effort paid off and they’ve set a very high bar for the future of this program.”
