SMHS Hosts College Fair

SMHS College Fair

This past Tuesday, Santa Maria High School collaborated with Allan Hancock College to host a district- wide College Night that was open to all local high school students and their families.

About 350 participants attended the event that featured more than 30 universities, colleges, and programs in the Wilson Gym. Students also completed Bingo cards by visiting the various tables and engaging with the representatives. Once they completed Bingo, they turned their card in for a free meal of either Efren’s Mexican food or Cubanissimo Cuban food.

“It was fun. I enjoyed it! I saw a variety of options and I learned that the best university for me is probably Fresno State because they have my program.” – SMHS 11th grader Lorena Velarde.

Saint Career & College School Counselor Erica Martinez described the evening as a “success” and added that, “many college and university representatives plan to return to the campus next year”.

“It was a great event. The students seemed eager and thankful for the opportunity to learn about universities and college opportunities. Thank you!” - Maria Arvizu-Rodriguez, Allan Hancock College.

“Best college fair ever!” - Glynnis Mullenary, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).
